Barbara’s story

"Always wanting to know every detail."

During her studies in physiotherapy, Barbara quickly realised she needed to take her education further. “In physio school, the spine was barely covered. I soon realised my knowledge just wasn’t deep enough to truly help patients — especially when complaints were more complex. And that’s just who I am: I always want to understand things completely.”

“You’re the puzzle I want to solve.”

Barbara is deeply driven by the challenge of identifying the true root cause of a patient’s complaint. “My work doesn’t feel complete until I’ve solved the puzzle — until I’ve figured out why someone is in pain.”

At Chiropractie Aalst-Waalre, Barbara and her team regularly see patients who have already tried everything and found no solution elsewhere.

“In over 80% of those cases, we’re able to significantly improve or fully resolve their complaints. That’s incredibly rewarding — but also frustrating, because it often takes patients far too long to reach us.”

Her mission in chiropractic extends beyond helping individual patients:

“I want to raise the profile of chiropractic care in the Netherlands. With the clinical results we’ve achieved in recent years, I firmly believe we’ve earned that position.”

Thanks to these outcomes, the practice maintains close collaboration with local GPs and receives a growing number of referrals from hospital-based specialists.

Barbara also contributes to the profession at a national level. She works for the Stichting Chiropractie Nederland (SCN) and regularly performs quality audits at other practices to help maintain high standards of care across the profession.

Outside of her work, Barbara is a proud mother of two. Her professional interests include:

• Back and neck pain

• Neurology

• Paediatric chiropractic

• Pregnancy- and postpartum-related complaints
